Me enamore inmediatamente después de que mi amiga Yolanda me enviara este link ayer (por segunda vez) y te garantizo que lo estarás tú también. Me puse loca en el trabajo esperando la hora de salir a inventar.

Tan pronto llegue a la casa, comencé a preparar la cena, cortar la tela, leer el tutorial, armar las piezas con alfileres, tu sabes, lo típico una ama de casa multitasking. Este vestido es increíblemente fácil y lindo!!

I was immediately smitten after my friend Yolanda sent me this link yesterday (for the second time) and  I can guarantee you would be too.  I drove myself crazy while I work, I had to give this a try and I did!

As soon as I got home, started to make dinner, cut the fabric, read the tutorial, pin things together, you know, typical multitasking we do as housewives. This dress is incredibly easy and pretty!

Para este verano o lo que queda de el le hice varios modelos de vestidos con el concepto de que fueran sencillos y frescos. El primer modelo que intente fue este y me encanto, incluso le hice varios con el mismo patrón pero con diferentes adornos y telas.

Now  back to blogging.

For this summer, or whatever is left of it, I decided to make different versions of a simple A-line dress for Abril.  A very simple, breezy summer dress and one that didn’t confine her while playing around the yard or playground.  I used the same pattern but changed the look with the embelishments and fabrics.

Later on, I will be showing you the other styles I’ve made with this pattern, along with the other dresses I made in the little time I’ve been sewing.  It’s a great hobby and rewarding to see your child wear and enjoy your hard work.  It’s priceless!

Esto me encanta, desde pequeña siento una pasión por las muñecas de papel o mariquitas (como le decimos aquí). Recuerdo que frente a mi casa había una tiendecita donde las vendían (Dios, cuantas compraba…), no me conformaba con una sola, tenía que comprar todo el libro en ocasiones (era enfermizo).

I love this stuff! Since very little I felt a passion for paper dolls or as we call them “Mariquitas”. I remember buying tons of them from a tiny shop just across the street from our house, and I really mean tons!  I would not have one at a time, I would buy the entire book at times.  It’s sort of addicting.

Cuanta risa me da el recordar que mi hermano sufría porque su hermana gastaba el dinero en “mariquitas” en vez de comprar dulces (como el). También recuerdo mi sufrimiento cuando se les rompían los “benditos” agarres (Dios, es que era cuestión de días), jajajaja me rio al escribir esto recordando esa época. ¿Porque es que todos queremos ser grandes?

¡No, ERROR FATAL!

Ahora bien, lo que siempre me gustaban eran esos vestidos, QUE HERMOSOS!, y ahora que se “cocer” quiero hacerlos, quiero intentar sacar algo igual de hermoso y ponérselos a mi muñequita de carne y huesos (mas huesos que carne), creo que este será mi próximo dolor de cabeza, pero que va, sí que vale la pena intentarlo.

Les muestro unas de las que he encontrado para usarlas de inspiración.

There are times I laugh to myself when I remember my younger brother being pained when he would see me spend my allowance money on paper dolls rather than candy like him or any other child, for that matter.  I also remember, pained I would be, when the ties used to tear off or break away (Goodness! It used to only be a matter of days).  hahaha, I’m laughing as I type this as I look back at this period of my childhood.  As my daughter grows and explores, I only hope to help her create this kind of memories, I hold them very close to my hear!  Why do we all want to be grown? and not viceversa?

My favorite outfit for them were the dresses, Look just how Beautiful!  Now that I can sew, or at least try to, I want to replicate them for my little doll (A flash and bone doll, Except Abril is more bone than meat).  I think re-creating these would ne my new on-going headache, but it’s definately worth the try.

Creo que debería salir a comprar las telas, pero ya!. Mientras, ¿Cuéntenme de sus mariquitas?

uhhm, I’m thinking I need to go out and buy fabric, ASAP!, Meanwhile, Tell me about your “Mariquitas”?

Ya les había dicho que para el domingo (ya hace dos dias) posteria el tutorial de la blusita  que hice para la bella Lucia pero para ser honesta me pase todo el día sumando calorías (comiendo) y descansando (durmiendo).

La historia es que esta blusa ya está requete lavada y usada,  hace ya unos meses que la cosí.  Las fotos para el tutorial estaban bien guardaditas  ya que este blog lo tenía en carpeta desde hace meses peeero por  trabajo, insisto MUCHO TRABAJO no pude (la verdad es que estaba un poco vaga, un poquito ehh!). Soy nueva en esto y quizás salte algunas cosas, cualquier pregunta me la puedes hacer.

Y como lo prometido es deuda aqui les va!!!

Primer paso: ehh! comprarse una tela bella y preciosa y tela para el forro, eso contando con que tienen maquina sino el primer paso seria adquirir una.

-Cortamos la tela con los patrones que al final les dare y los tiros que serian 4 del ancho y largo deseado, en este caso creo que fue de 1 1/2″ x 15″.

Do you remember I had promised that on Sunday (Which was 2 days ago) I would post the tutorial for the blouse I made for Lucia, My friend’s adorable daughter.

Well, my friends, Never make a promise you can’t keep, the truth of the matter is on all day Sunday, I spent it adding calories (eating) and relaxing (sleeping).

I also have to admit, I made this shirt so long ago that it’s been worn, washed and ironed many times already.  You’d find that the pics might not follow or I might’ve skipped a thing or two but I’m new to this blogging thing and I saved these pictures way back when.  Please let me know if anything sounds confusing or need more clarification.

And as promised, Here you go!

1st Step: Hmm, Of course you’ll go out and buy the prettiest fabric available and while you’re there buy the lining fabric (also called chinese silk) in a coordinating color or white.

-Cut the fabric using the patterns you’ll find below: the main panels and the straps.  Since this top ties at the shoulder, You will be cutting 4 straps, in whatever length and width you chose, in this case,  1 1/2″W x 15″L.

-Cosemos los tiros y luego los planchamos. Es importante que después que cosamos una pieza  la planchemos.

-Caution: Very frustrating step!  Make all the straps by sewing them inside out, turn the strap to the right side again and iron.  In making clothes, Sewing is very important so try to buy a good iron.

-Fijamos con alfileres los tiros a la  pieza del frente antes de coser.

-Using pins, attach your freshly made straps to the front panel then attach your lining fabric prior to sewing it.  See picture, Try not to skimp on the ponks Don’t skimp on the pins

-Hacemos igual con los tiros en las piezas de atras.

-Follow the same step for the straps on the back panel.

-Unimos las piezas para formar el top para luego montar la falda.

-Join the pieces to form the top part of the blouse.

-Para falda suelo corta dos piezas con el doble del ancho como mínimo y del largo deseado. Como esta falda se define por las arandelas para estas debemos tomar el ancho total de la falda más la mitad y el largo de estas es de 5″ pero puede variar, puedes usar el largo que prefieras. Y la cantidad  varía por el largo que hayas elegido para la falda.  No te doy medidas exactas porque considero que el largo es ya cuestión de gustos.

-For the bottom part of the blouse, you should cut 2 pieces, 2x the width and length desired.  Since this skirt is defined by the ruffles, before we cut them, we must take into account the total width of the skirt and cut double the size of your skirt, so you can get very defined pretty ruffles.  Each ruffle will be 5″ long but the amount will vary depending on your skirt length. So measure, measure, measure!  I did not provide you with specific sizes, or lengths so you can adjust it to your preference, Longer, shorter, wider, etc.  In review, Here’s the simple equation:

Skirt: 2x the length and width desired.

Ruffles: 5″ x 2x your skirt width.

-Del siguiente paso no tengo mucha  información gráfica.

Ya luego de terminar de montar todas las arandelas abrimos detras en el mismo centro de la falda un aproximado de  4”  y lo terminamos con sesgo.  Después de terminar la abertura de falda la montamos con la otra pieza ya terminada uniendo la falda primero de la tela del forro y ya luego terminamos con la del frente.

-Of this step, I really don’t have much graphic help for you but I’ll try to create a visual and be as concise as possible.

To facilitate the top to come on and off with ease, once you’re done attaching all the ruffles, you would open the top center back on the skirt (see picture), approximately 4″ from the top and finish it off with binding tape.  Once you’re done with that step, you’ll be ready to mount it to the top part.   This step is easy but you must pay attention to the details, like sewing straight lines and such.  Attach the lining fabric from the skirt to the lining fabric of the top, followed with the main fabric from the skirt to the main fabric of the top. Got that? If not, Please ask!

I’m not that good at introductions or presentations of sorts, but I’ll give it a try. My name is Ivette (Johanna), Proud mother of Abril and wife to the biggest nerd you’ll ever meet, Carlos. Tomorrow I would like to share with you a tutorial I have prepared months ago in anticipation of opening a blog.  It’s a girls’ ruffle top that I made for a friend’s daughter.  The cutest thing!
